Errigal is the highest of the Derryveagh Mountains at 2,466 feet (751 metres) and is the 76th highest in Ireland.
It takes between 1 to 1.5 hours to hike to the top so you should normally allow between 2 to 2.5 hours for the round trip.
Located just east of Dunlewey on the R251 is a convenient car park on the south side of Errigal. This leads to the start of the trail. The route can be a little boggy at the bottom but after a short while the path develops in to a rocky trail. The ascent follows the southeast ridge of the mountain and is quite steep in parts.
Once up you can enjoy the many spectacular views.
The official starting point for climbing Errigal is clearly visible from the R251 driving to or from Dunlewey. It is about 5 minutes drive to the east of Dunlewey – on the right as you drive in to Dunlewey from Letterkenny or on the left as you drive from Dunlewey toward Letterkenny.
