The Lion King

The Forristal School of Dance returns to An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny after their successful production of The Little Mermaid two years ago. This is the fifth production and they have artistically created a carnival of animals, costumes, colour and haunting African music to entertain audiences of all ages.
Children from the tender age of three up to teenage years have been busy preparing their dance routines and acting since November.
The Forrestal School of Dance has been running classes successfully in Gaoth Dobhair and the Rosses for the past eleven years.  Deirdre Forristal, the principal of the school, who will also be performing in the show, noted that “the enthusiasm and dedication of the students is just fantastic and we are all very excited about performing in An Grianán.” The Lion King will run in An Grianán Theatre on Saturday 21st April, at 7p.m. and Sunday 22ndApril at 1p.m. and 7p.m.Tickets available at the theatre box office on 074 9120777.

Whist Drive

At the weekly whist drive in Scoil Mhuire, Derrybeg on Monday 9th April, Charlie Gallagher, Gortahork with a score of 175 points won top score prize. First lady’s prize with a score of 171 points was won by Mary Gallagher, Dungloe and second lady’s prize with a score of 167 points went to Nóra Boyle, Derrybeg. First gent’s prize with a score of 168 points was won by Paddy McGeady, Gortahork, and second gent’s prize with a score of 167 points was won by Dan Rua Gallagher, Srath na Corcra.  Bríd Ní Ghallchóir Mín an Iolar with 91 points won the prize for the highest score in the first half, while Winnie McGee, Cotteen with 87 points had the highest score in the second half.

The Late Dan Doherty

The death occurred  at his home in Magheralosk, Bunbeg on Sunday last of Dan Doherty. The deceased, who had reached the grand age of 97 years, was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Tom Ned in January 2005.  The couple and their family spent many years living in Scotland. He was better known locally as Dan Phaidí Hiudaí. He was waked at the home of his daughter, Margaret. He is survived by two daughters, two sons and a brother, Tom who lives in Meenaleck, Crolly. His funeral mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Derrybeg on Tuesday at 11.00a.m. His interment took place afterwards in Magheragallon cemetery.

Month’s Mind Mass

The month’s mind mass for the late Jimmy Phaidí Jimmy McBride, Ard na gCeapairí will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Derrybeg  this Saturday at 11.00a.m.

The lucky winners of Club 100 CLG Ghaoth Dobhair for the month of March were: €400, Rosie Boyle, Upper Dore;  €250, Pádraig Doherty, Strand Road, Derrybeg; €150, Séamus Mac Suibhne, Machaire Chlochair and the following won €100 each:  John Harkin, Srath na Corcra and  Mary Lennon, Cnoc an Stolaire.

Cnoc Fola Bingo

At last Sunday night’s bingo in Ionad Pobail Chnoc Fola a Meencarrick, a Gortahork woman who is originally from Brinaleck, Mrs. Sonia McGinley, scopped the snowball prize of 1,000 euro. The other main prize winners were: 100 euro each: Máire Gallagher, Stranacorkra, Maureen Doherty, Glassagh, Bríd McGeday, Glasserchoo and Carrie McGee, Carrick.

Sympathy

The sympathy of the community is extended to Danny Lynch, Strand Road, Middletown on the recent death of his nephew, James Lynch which took place in Glasgow. This is the second bereavement suffered by the family in recent weeks,  Danny’s sister, Mary Doherty, passed away in Paisley, Scotland in early March.

Table Quiz

A table quiz organised by Teach Sheáin Óig, Middletown is held in the premises every Thursday night at 10.00p.m.  The proceeds will go to the local Gaoth Dobhair branch of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The quiz will run for the next six to seven weeks.
The proprietors of Teach Sheáin Óig and Cumann na gCurach wish to thank everyone who supported the weekly quiz in aid of Cumann na gCurach held during the past few months.

Peace Mass

Chernobyl Children
