The Late Cathal McGee

The death took place at his home in Arduns on Friday March 23rd of Cathal McGee. Aged 58 years, he was a son of the late Mickey Jimmy Mhicí McGee and Gracie Eoghain Pheadair Bhig [née O’Donnell]. Cathal was very well known in the locality as he was involved in a number of business ventures in recent years. Cathal could be described as a handy man, the same as his late father, Mickey. He was gifted with his hands and he could turn his hand at any task from fixing cars, wiring or roofing a house. He picked up all this from his father. He had great passion for cars, and one of the offertory gifts brought up to the altar was a model of a car. He was brother of the well known singer, Séamus McGee.
For a number of years Cathal operated a mobile phone shop in Magheraclogher which was located adjoining the Greim Gasta Fast Food outlet. When he closed this business he opened a tyre fitting facility called, “Arduns Tyres”. Here he supplied and fitted new tyres, and he also operated a car wash facility as well as a puncture repair service from the same premises. He continued with this business until the offset of his illness over a year ago.
The very large and representative attendance at the wake and funeral, clearly indicated the high esteem and respect in which the deceased and his family are held. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Derrybeg on Sunday week last at 1.00p.m. The main celebrant of the mass was An Dr. Oirmh. Pádraig Ó Baoighill, Sagart Paróiste Ghaoth Dobhair, and he was assisted by Fr. Seán Ó Gallchóir, Sagart Paróiste Ghort a’ Choirce and Fr. Brian Ó Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair and Fr. Donnchadh Ó Baoill, C.C., Cnoc Fola. The soloist was Paddy Joe O’Donnell, Annagry and he was accompanied on the organ by his wife, Máire. Family members and relatives brought the gifts to the altar and done the readings as well as the prayers of the faithful. His funeral afterwards took place to Magheragallon cemetery and he was interred in a plot alongside his parents, Mickey and Gracie.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, daughter, Sharon, brother, Séamus McGee [Arduns], sister, Bríd Whoriskey, [Arduns], inlaws, nephews, nieces, family circle and a wide circle of friends to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.
